What the tyre markings mean

M+S: Mud and Snow (M+S)M+S is a manufacturer's indication that the tread is intended to offer improved traction in mud and snow. By itself it is not the same as the tested 3PMSF winter certification.
3PMSF: Three-Peak Mountain SnowflakeThe mountain-and-snowflake symbol identifies a tyre that has passed a standardised severe-snow traction test. It is the recognised performance marking for winter conditions.

Great on the motorway
Ride comfort is the standout. Long journeys feel less tiring now. Steering response improved straight away after fitting.

Good, not perfect
Ordered online, fitted locally. The tyres themselves have been faultless so far.

Recommended
Fuel consumption seems slightly better since the switch. Tyres themselves are great. Fine for the price.

Smooth ride
Switched from a budget brand to the SP 401 — the difference in braking is obvious. Stable and precise in summer heat. Nothing fancy, but fair for the price.

Great on the motorway
For this price I didn't expect much, but the SP 401 genuinely surprised me. Decent grip dry and wet, but they took a few hundred km to feel bedded in. Slightly firmer ride than I expected.
