What the tyre markings mean

XL: Reinforced tyre (XL)XL means Extra Load. The tyre is reinforced and can carry a higher load than a standard tyre of the same size. Always follow the vehicle's specified load index and tyre pressure.
M+S: Mud and Snow (M+S)M+S is a manufacturer's indication that the tread is intended to offer improved traction in mud and snow. By itself it is not the same as the tested 3PMSF winter certification.
3PMSF: Three-Peak Mountain SnowflakeThe mountain-and-snowflake symbol identifies a tyre that has passed a standardised severe-snow traction test. It is the recognised performance marking for winter conditions.

Does the job well
Third car I've run on Avon. Consistent quality every time. Decent grip dry and wet, but they took a few hundred km to feel bedded in. Nice not having to swap tyres twice a year.

Impressed so far
Fuel consumption seems slightly better since the switch. Tyres themselves are great. Decent grip dry and wet, but they took a few hundred km to feel bedded in. Coped fine with a light snowfall in early spring.
