What the tyre markings mean
- XL
- Reinforced tyre (XL)XL means Extra Load. The tyre is reinforced and can carry a higher load than a standard tyre of the same size. Always follow the vehicle's specified load index and tyre pressure.
- M+S
- Mud and Snow (M+S)M+S is a manufacturer's indication that the tread is intended to offer improved traction in mud and snow. By itself it is not the same as the tested 3PMSF winter certification.
- 3PMSF

Fine tyre, minor niggles
Steering response improved straight away after fitting. Very pleased. Does exactly what a winter tyre should. Felt secure on icy morning roads. Nothing fancy, but fair for the price.

Good grip in the wet
Put these on two months ago and the car feels noticeably more planted. The WinterContact TS 870 P grips well on dry roads. Had these through a full season now.

Fine for the price. Slightly more road noise than I hoped on coarse asphalt. Felt secure on icy morning roads. Took a few hundred km to bed in.
