XL: Reinforced tyre (XL)XL means Extra Load. The tyre is reinforced and can carry a higher load than a standard tyre of the same size. Always follow the vehicle's specified load index and tyre pressure.
M+S: Mud and Snow (M+S)M+S is a manufacturer's indication that the tread is intended to offer improved traction in mud and snow. By itself it is not the same as the tested 3PMSF winter certification.

My mechanic recommended Firemax and he was right. Quiet, stable, no complaints. Does the job, nothing more. Could be a touch quieter on rough tarmac.

A sensible buy. Not sporty, but safe and quiet. The car feels more stable in crosswinds since fitting these. Took a few hundred km to bed in.
