What the tyre markings mean

XL: Reinforced tyre (XL)XL means Extra Load. The tyre is reinforced and can carry a higher load than a standard tyre of the same size. Always follow the vehicle's specified load index and tyre pressure.
M+S: Mud and Snow (M+S)M+S is a manufacturer's indication that the tread is intended to offer improved traction in mud and snow. By itself it is not the same as the tested 3PMSF winter certification.
3PMSF: Three-Peak Mountain SnowflakeThe mountain-and-snowflake symbol identifies a tyre that has passed a standardised severe-snow traction test. It is the recognised performance marking for winter conditions.
Rim protection: Rim protectionA raised rubber profile near the bead helps protect the rim edge from light kerb contact. It cannot prevent every type of wheel damage.

Better than expected
They're okay. Comfortable enough, but I expected a bit sharper turn-in. Coped fine with a light snowfall in early spring. Nothing fancy, but fair for the price.

All-round good pick
A sensible buy. Not sporty, but safe and quiet. Took a few hundred km to bed in.

Worth the money
Wet braking is excellent. Gave me real confidence on a flooded motorway stretch.

Nice upgrade
Good in town and on the motorway alike. Versatile tyre.

A step up from my old set
Grip when pulling away on wet junctions is much better than my old tyres. Ride comfort is the standout.

Better than expected
Fuel consumption seems slightly better since the switch. Tyres themselves are great. Good balance of comfort and handling. Coped fine with a light snowfall in early spring.
