The new WinterContact TS 850 P is intended for use in the SUV / 4x4 and passenger car segments. Passenger cars and SUVs are normally driven under the same operating conditions. For this reason, products with similar requirement profiles for passenger cars and SUVs are combined in one product line. If a tyre dimension is primarily used for SUVs, it is labelled on the sidewall.

What the tyre markings mean

XL: Reinforced tyre (XL)XL means Extra Load. The tyre is reinforced and can carry a higher load than a standard tyre of the same size. Always follow the vehicle's specified load index and tyre pressure.
M+S: Mud and Snow (M+S)M+S is a manufacturer's indication that the tread is intended to offer improved traction in mud and snow. By itself it is not the same as the tested 3PMSF winter certification.
3PMSF: Three-Peak Mountain SnowflakeThe mountain-and-snowflake symbol identifies a tyre that has passed a standardised severe-snow traction test. It is the recognised performance marking for winter conditions.
Rim protection: Rim protectionA raised rubber profile near the bead helps protect the rim edge from light kerb contact. It cannot prevent every type of wheel damage.

Good grip in the wet
Reliable winter rubber. No surprises, which is exactly what I want. Good value, though the sidewall is softer than my previous set. Holds well in snow and slush. Took a few hundred km to bed in.

Very quiet on tarmac. The WinterContact TS 850 P made my commute noticeably more relaxed. Nothing fancy, but fair for the price.

They're okay. Comfortable enough, but I expected a bit sharper turn-in. Braking in the wet feels a touch longer than my old premium set, but at this price it's fair. Felt secure on icy morning roads. Not the last word in steering feel.
