What the tyre markings mean

M+S: Mud and Snow (M+S)M+S is a manufacturer's indication that the tread is intended to offer improved traction in mud and snow. By itself it is not the same as the tested 3PMSF winter certification.
3PMSF: Three-Peak Mountain SnowflakeThe mountain-and-snowflake symbol identifies a tyre that has passed a standardised severe-snow traction test. It is the recognised performance marking for winter conditions.
EV: Suitable for electric vehiclesThis tyre is optimised for the weight, torque, rolling resistance and noise requirements of electric and hybrid vehicles. The marking does not mean that it can only be used on an EV.

Reliable winter rubber
Good in town and on the motorway alike. Versatile tyre. For this price I didn't expect much, but the WinterContact TS 870 genuinely surprised me.

Fitted and forgotten
Comfortable over rough surfaces. My old set used to thump over every bump. Proper grip on packed snow, no wheelspin drama. Slightly firmer ride than I expected.

Smooth ride
Driven about 3,000 km on these so far. Wear looks even and grip is consistent. Switched from a budget brand to the WinterContact TS 870 — the difference in braking is obvious. Not the last word in steering feel.
