What the tyre markings mean

XL: Reinforced tyre (XL)XL means Extra Load. The tyre is reinforced and can carry a higher load than a standard tyre of the same size. Always follow the vehicle's specified load index and tyre pressure.
M+S: Mud and Snow (M+S)M+S is a manufacturer's indication that the tread is intended to offer improved traction in mud and snow. By itself it is not the same as the tested 3PMSF winter certification.
3PMSF: Three-Peak Mountain SnowflakeThe mountain-and-snowflake symbol identifies a tyre that has passed a standardised severe-snow traction test. It is the recognised performance marking for winter conditions.

Nice upgrade
Steering response improved straight away after fitting. Very pleased. Third car I've run on Falken. Not the last word in steering feel.

Good, not perfect
Fitted before a long road trip. Comfortable at motorway speeds and felt safe in heavy rain. Not the grippiest in hard cornering, but for normal driving they're more than adequate. Felt secure on icy morning roads.

Solid winter tyre
The car feels more stable in crosswinds since fitting these.
