What the tyre markings mean

XL: Reinforced tyre (XL)XL means Extra Load. The tyre is reinforced and can carry a higher load than a standard tyre of the same size. Always follow the vehicle's specified load index and tyre pressure.
M+S: Mud and Snow (M+S)M+S is a manufacturer's indication that the tread is intended to offer improved traction in mud and snow. By itself it is not the same as the tested 3PMSF winter certification.
3PMSF: Three-Peak Mountain SnowflakeThe mountain-and-snowflake symbol identifies a tyre that has passed a standardised severe-snow traction test. It is the recognised performance marking for winter conditions.
Rim protection: Rim protectionA raised rubber profile near the bead helps protect the rim edge from light kerb contact. It cannot prevent every type of wheel damage.

Reliable winter rubber
Switched from a budget brand to the Eurowinter HS02 PRO — the difference in braking is obvious. Felt secure on icy morning roads. Not the last word in steering feel.

Good all-rounder
Does the job, nothing more. For daily commuting it's perfectly fine. Wet braking is excellent.

Trusted Falken quality
Had these through a full season now. Wear is minimal and performance hasn't dropped. Comfortable over rough surfaces. Proper grip on packed snow, no wheelspin drama. Slightly firmer ride than I expected.

Braking feels secure
Early days, but first impressions are very good. Smooth and quiet. Could be a touch quieter on rough tarmac.
