What the tyre markings mean

XL: Reinforced tyre (XL)XL means Extra Load. The tyre is reinforced and can carry a higher load than a standard tyre of the same size. Always follow the vehicle's specified load index and tyre pressure.
M+S: Mud and Snow (M+S)M+S is a manufacturer's indication that the tread is intended to offer improved traction in mud and snow. By itself it is not the same as the tested 3PMSF winter certification.
Rim protection: Rim protectionA raised rubber profile near the bead helps protect the rim edge from light kerb contact. It cannot prevent every type of wheel damage.

Grip when pulling away on wet junctions is much better than my old tyres. Third car I've run on Pirelli. Coped fine with a light snowfall in early spring.

Pleasantly surprised
Very quiet on tarmac. The Scorpion Zero All Season made my commute noticeably more relaxed. Not the grippiest in hard cornering, but for normal driving they're more than adequate. Took a few hundred km to bed in.
