What the tyre markings mean

XL: Reinforced tyre (XL)XL means Extra Load. The tyre is reinforced and can carry a higher load than a standard tyre of the same size. Always follow the vehicle's specified load index and tyre pressure.
M+S: Mud and Snow (M+S)M+S is a manufacturer's indication that the tread is intended to offer improved traction in mud and snow. By itself it is not the same as the tested 3PMSF winter certification.
3PMSF: Three-Peak Mountain SnowflakeThe mountain-and-snowflake symbol identifies a tyre that has passed a standardised severe-snow traction test. It is the recognised performance marking for winter conditions.

Good grip in the wet
Very quiet on tarmac. The Snowpower 2 made my commute noticeably more relaxed. Proper grip on packed snow, no wheelspin drama.

Braking feels secure
Second set of Tristar on this car. The last ones wore well, expecting the same here. Nothing fancy, but fair for the price.

Reliable winter rubber
Ordered online, fitted locally. The tyres themselves have been faultless so far. Had these through a full season now.

Trusted Tristar quality
Decent tyre at a fair price. Tread pattern clears water well. The car feels more stable in crosswinds since fitting these.

Fine tyre, minor niggles
Grip when pulling away on wet junctions is much better than my old tyres. Proper grip on packed snow, no wheelspin drama. Not the last word in steering feel.
