What the tyre markings mean

XL: Reinforced tyre (XL)XL means Extra Load. The tyre is reinforced and can carry a higher load than a standard tyre of the same size. Always follow the vehicle's specified load index and tyre pressure.
M+S: Mud and Snow (M+S)M+S is a manufacturer's indication that the tread is intended to offer improved traction in mud and snow. By itself it is not the same as the tested 3PMSF winter certification.
3PMSF: Three-Peak Mountain SnowflakeThe mountain-and-snowflake symbol identifies a tyre that has passed a standardised severe-snow traction test. It is the recognised performance marking for winter conditions.
Rim protection: Rim protectionA raised rubber profile near the bead helps protect the rim edge from light kerb contact. It cannot prevent every type of wheel damage.

Okay for everyday driving
Wet braking is excellent. Gave me real confidence on a flooded motorway stretch. My mechanic recommended Yokohama and he was right.

Solid winter tyre
Grip when pulling away on wet junctions is much better than my old tyres.

Handles well
Third car I've run on Yokohama. Consistent quality every time. Wet braking is excellent. Felt secure on icy morning roads. Took a few hundred km to bed in.

Good, not perfect
Bought a full set of Yokohama for the family car. Comfortable ride and no drama in the rain. Reliable winter rubber. Slightly firmer ride than I expected.
