What the tyre markings mean

XL: Reinforced tyre (XL)XL means Extra Load. The tyre is reinforced and can carry a higher load than a standard tyre of the same size. Always follow the vehicle's specified load index and tyre pressure.
M+S: Mud and Snow (M+S)M+S is a manufacturer's indication that the tread is intended to offer improved traction in mud and snow. By itself it is not the same as the tested 3PMSF winter certification.
3PMSF: Three-Peak Mountain SnowflakeThe mountain-and-snowflake symbol identifies a tyre that has passed a standardised severe-snow traction test. It is the recognised performance marking for winter conditions.
EV: Suitable for electric vehiclesThis tyre is optimised for the weight, torque, rolling resistance and noise requirements of electric and hybrid vehicles. The marking does not mean that it can only be used on an EV.
Rim protection: Rim protectionA raised rubber profile near the bead helps protect the rim edge from light kerb contact. It cannot prevent every type of wheel damage.

A step up from my old set
Had them fitted last month. Wet grip is confidence-inspiring and they look the part too. Nothing fancy, but fair for the price.

Fitted and forgotten
Fuel consumption seems slightly better since the switch. Tyres themselves are great. Steering response improved straight away after fitting. Felt secure on icy morning roads.

Solid winter tyre
The car feels more stable in crosswinds since fitting these. For this price I didn't expect much, but the Blizzak 6 genuinely surprised me. Proper grip on packed snow, no wheelspin drama. Could be a touch quieter on rough tarmac.
