What the tyre markings mean

XL: Reinforced tyre (XL)XL means Extra Load. The tyre is reinforced and can carry a higher load than a standard tyre of the same size. Always follow the vehicle's specified load index and tyre pressure.
M+S: Mud and Snow (M+S)M+S is a manufacturer's indication that the tread is intended to offer improved traction in mud and snow. By itself it is not the same as the tested 3PMSF winter certification.
3PMSF: Three-Peak Mountain SnowflakeThe mountain-and-snowflake symbol identifies a tyre that has passed a standardised severe-snow traction test. It is the recognised performance marking for winter conditions.
Rim protection: Rim protectionA raised rubber profile near the bead helps protect the rim edge from light kerb contact. It cannot prevent every type of wheel damage.

Put these on two months ago and the car feels noticeably more planted. The Blizzak DM-V3 grips well on dry roads. Early days, but first impressions are very good. Felt secure on icy morning roads.

For this price I didn't expect much, but the Blizzak DM-V3 genuinely surprised me. Early days, but first impressions are very good. Holds well in snow and slush. Took a few hundred km to bed in.
