What the tyre markings mean

XL: Reinforced tyre (XL)XL means Extra Load. The tyre is reinforced and can carry a higher load than a standard tyre of the same size. Always follow the vehicle's specified load index and tyre pressure.
M+S: Mud and Snow (M+S)M+S is a manufacturer's indication that the tread is intended to offer improved traction in mud and snow. By itself it is not the same as the tested 3PMSF winter certification.
3PMSF: Three-Peak Mountain SnowflakeThe mountain-and-snowflake symbol identifies a tyre that has passed a standardised severe-snow traction test. It is the recognised performance marking for winter conditions.
Rim protection: Rim protectionA raised rubber profile near the bead helps protect the rim edge from light kerb contact. It cannot prevent every type of wheel damage.

Solid winter tyre
Steering response improved straight away after fitting. Very pleased. Fitted them at a mate's garage. Slightly firmer ride than I expected.

Better than expected
Fuel consumption seems slightly better since the switch. Tyres themselves are great. Good tyre overall. Felt secure on icy morning roads.

Good all-rounder
They're okay. Comfortable enough, but I expected a bit sharper turn-in. The car feels more stable in crosswinds since fitting these. Felt secure on icy morning roads.
