What the tyre markings mean

XL: Reinforced tyre (XL)XL means Extra Load. The tyre is reinforced and can carry a higher load than a standard tyre of the same size. Always follow the vehicle's specified load index and tyre pressure.
M+S: Mud and Snow (M+S)M+S is a manufacturer's indication that the tread is intended to offer improved traction in mud and snow. By itself it is not the same as the tested 3PMSF winter certification.
3PMSF: Three-Peak Mountain SnowflakeThe mountain-and-snowflake symbol identifies a tyre that has passed a standardised severe-snow traction test. It is the recognised performance marking for winter conditions.
EV: Suitable for electric vehiclesThis tyre is optimised for the weight, torque, rolling resistance and noise requirements of electric and hybrid vehicles. The marking does not mean that it can only be used on an EV.

Smooth ride
Good tyre overall. Would have liked a bit more feedback through the steering. Good winter tyre for the money. Holds well in snow and slush.

Fitted and forgotten
Very quiet on tarmac. The WinterContact TS 870 made my commute noticeably more relaxed. Good value, though the sidewall is softer than my previous set. Holds well in snow and slush. Not the last word in steering feel.

Okay for everyday driving
The car feels more stable in crosswinds since fitting these. Holds well in snow and slush. Took a few hundred km to bed in.
