What the tyre markings mean

XL: Reinforced tyre (XL)XL means Extra Load. The tyre is reinforced and can carry a higher load than a standard tyre of the same size. Always follow the vehicle's specified load index and tyre pressure.
M+S: Mud and Snow (M+S)M+S is a manufacturer's indication that the tread is intended to offer improved traction in mud and snow. By itself it is not the same as the tested 3PMSF winter certification.
3PMSF: Three-Peak Mountain SnowflakeThe mountain-and-snowflake symbol identifies a tyre that has passed a standardised severe-snow traction test. It is the recognised performance marking for winter conditions.
Rim protection: Rim protectionA raised rubber profile near the bead helps protect the rim edge from light kerb contact. It cannot prevent every type of wheel damage.

Trusted Yokohama quality
Fitted before a long road trip. Comfortable at motorway speeds and felt safe in heavy rain. Grip when pulling away on wet junctions is much better than my old tyres.

Balanced and predictable. Exactly how a tyre should feel. Bought on price, staying for the quality. Proper grip on packed snow, no wheelspin drama. Could be a touch quieter on rough tarmac.

Fitted and forgotten
My mechanic recommended Yokohama and he was right. Quiet, stable, no complaints. Took a few hundred km to bed in.

Grip in corners is reassuring and the steering feels a bit sharper than before. Decent grip dry and wet, but they took a few hundred km to feel bedded in. Proper grip on packed snow, no wheelspin drama.

Switched from a budget brand to the BluEarth-Winter (V905) — the difference in braking is obvious. Brakes hard and straight, no pulling. Holds well in snow and slush.
